5 Healthy Hair Habits to Adopt This Summer
There’s nothing quite like lazing on the beach or hanging out with friends during a balmy summer day. While soaking up some rays is a must-do during the summer season, it unfortunately isn’t the best thing for your hair.
Spending too much time under the sun will not only fry your hair, but it can also make it challenging to manage for the rest of the season – and more! Don’t worry, though; you won’t have to cancel your summer plans or avoid the sun. Instead, there are numerous ways that you can keep your strands healthy and protect them from those pesky rays.
Below are 5 healthy hair habits that we’ve curated to help you manage your hair this summer season!
Healthy Hair Habit #1: Cut Loose Ends
Summer’s not only the perfect time to experiment with hairstyles, but it’s also a great time to cut off those split ends. If you’re trying to grow out your hair, a slight trim is all you need to be rewarded with gorgeous healthy and bouncy hair. While it might be tempting, try not to skip the cut, or you’ll end up with thinner strands that are prone to breakage and split ends.
Healthy Hair Habit #2: Wear a Hat

Just like you wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from the rays, a hat will do exactly that for your hair. As a bonus, the right sun hat can also help you achieve some fantastic summer OOTDs.
We recommend a straw hat that comes with a wide brim as these will not only protect your hair (and your face), but it’ll also allow some air in to help with cooling your scalp. Not keen on a hat? A headscarf will do just fine as well.
Healthy Hair Habit #3: Condition. Condition. Condition
You’ve probably heard this numerous times, but deep conditioning is key to healthy hair. Choose a deep conditioner that you’re a fan of and incorporate it into your weekly hair care routine for a touch of extra hydration. Your hair will not only feel silky smooth, but conditioning will also protect it from damage and add some body.
Healthy Hair Habit #4: Avoid Over Brushing
While brushing your hair is great (after all, nobody wants to show up to work or an event with a bedhead), excessively brushing your hair, however, can cause more damage than good. When you brush your hair too frequently, you run the risk of stretching it and breaking weak ends.
To avoid that happening, all you’ve got to is just brush your hair once a day, and you’re good to go. You should also opt for a plastic brush as brushes that come with bristles can be pretty tough on those gorgeous locks of yours.
Healthy Hair Habit #5: Pool Hair Care
It’s probably a no-brainer, but you should definitely rinse your hair after you’ve taken a dip in the pool. There’s chlorine in swimming pools, and it can cause your hair to split, break and be incredibly dry. If you’ve dyed your hair a particular colour or have extra-sensitive hair, it’s worth investing in a shampoo that contains ethylene tetra-acetic acid to help with preventing damage.
Nothing can stop you from having an enjoyable summer, not even if you’ve got a not-so-great hair day! With the proper hair care routine and hair products, you’ll be all set for an incredible summer with healthy and shiny hair.
