5 Common Hair Mistakes to Avoid This Winter

What better way to start it off winter than avoiding some common hair mistakes, which we all make. These tips are easy to follow and will help keep your hair looking on point every day of the year.

1: OVERWASHING IS SO UNNECESSARY

This is a big no-no! Over washing your hair drains all those natural and protective oils, which make your hair healthy as well as giving you that super chic shine. If you colour your hair, over washing will also cause your colour to fade, which is the last thing you want. To avoid such damages to your hair we recommend washing your hair 2-3 times per week.

2: LEAVE IT WHEN ITS WET!

We’re all so tempted to get rid of any of those knots straight after washing your hair but trust us, leave it. Brushing your hair when wet causes more damage to it than most people think. It causes any knots in your hair to be pulled and torn apart as well as putting a whole load of pressure on your ends.

If you must, use a wide-toothed comb and work your way from the ends up.

3: NO PROTECTION WHEN ADDING HEAT

Today’s trends mainly require heat styling tools to get that perfect look. We recommend not using styling products on a daily basis as they can dry out your hair creating a dull look with those flyways.

When using your curling iron, straightener etc, you should use a heat protector as it seals your hair and protects it from all it bears. Plus, most heat protectors will give your hair that super summer glow we’re all after.

4: POURING CONDITIONER ALL OVER YOUR LOCKS

Only condition the part of your hair that actually needs it, the ends. Coating your entire hair every time you wash actually damages it because it builds up over time and makes it harder to colour etc.

We suggest using a small amount of condition, roughly the size a dollar coin, and only working it through the ends. A dollar coin size should be enough for most people but if you have longer hair use a little more. The main key is to only use it on the bottom half of your hair.

5: UPDOING ALL DAY LONG

Tight up dos are totally hot right now! They are super quick and easy to do but you shouldn’t have your hair up all day every day.

Having your hair tied up with hair ties all the time can be detrimental to your hair.  They cause your hair to break, thus, giving you those flyways that none of us want. Not to mention, the added pressure on your scalp.

Let your locks lose once in a while. Alternatively, you can hold your hair up with clips.
